SIDESEAL®

PICARD Technologies® has been marketing the Sideseal® range for over 40 years in most industrialised countries.

What is SIDESEAL®?

Sideseals are high-end rotary shaft seals designed for demanding applications. They can be installed in either open or closed housings, depending on the profile used.
Sideseals are manufactured at our Valenciennes site from high-quality materials:

High-acrylonitrile elastomer filled with an anti-friction additive, for standard applications up to 115°C and 15 m/sec.
Viton® elastomer filled with an anti-friction compound, for applications where the temperature exceeds 115°C and/or in the presence of aggressive fluids.
Elastomix®, an elastomer specially formulated to withstand temperatures up to 175°C, steam, and various oils and greases. Elastomix® also stands out for its excellent abrasion resistance and its more competitive price compared to Viton®.
Aflas®, a premium elastomer designed for applications involving saturated steam and temperatures up to 200°C.
Silicone HR®, a silicone compound specially developed by us to withstand temperatures exceeding 220°C.

You will find different profiles in the Sideseal® range, recommended according to your specific application. View the Sideseal® catalogue…

In certain specific cases, we may recommend the Sideflon® option for your Sideseal®. The Sideflon® option is a filled PTFE (Teflon®) coating moulded onto the lip of the Sideseal®. The Sideflon® option:

Reduces the temperature generated by the friction of the Sideseal® on the shaft to be sealed,
Reduces the coefficient of friction,
Increases the service life of the Sideseal®,
– Allows for a higher rotational speed.

The Sideflon® option is recommended for applications requiring large-diameter shafts.

The Sideseal® can be optionally supplied cut to facilitate assembly or when required by the installation. The Sideseal® is then moulded with an all-elastomer section.
The cut is made in the middle of this all-elastomer section. Once the Sideseal® is installed in its housing, sealing is ensured by the two all-elastomer ends.
