What is Sideflon®?
Sideflon® is a modern material developed by PICARD Technologies® in 2011.
The initial objective was to obtain a material with technical properties comparable to, or even superior to, those of PTFE with 25% carbon + graphite—a benchmark in industrial applications—while remaining food-grade (FDA and 1935/2004 certified).
After three years of trials and extensive testing, we went beyond our initial expectations.
Sideflon® offers the following key characteristics:
– Low coefficient of friction: 0.19 compared with 0.34 for PTFE filled with PEEK or 0.6 for PTFE Bronze.
– Good Pv resistance, ideal for the production of sliding bearings.
– Low thermal expansion coefficient compared with PTFE.
– Excellent chemical inertia, resistant to oils, greases, steam, solvents, hydrocarbons, etc.
– Resistant to hydrolysis and low moisture absorption (< 0.02%).
– Suitable for food contact (FDA, 1935/2004 certified, 3A pending).
– Resistant to cleaning solutions used in the food industry (CIP).
– Operating temperature range: -180°C to +260°C, depending on the application.*
– Excellent wear coefficient: 5.2 < 7 for PTFE with 25% carbon + graphite.
– Prevents stick-slip effect, ideal for applications requiring precise, smooth movement.
– Ideal for the manufacture of piston seals, composite parts, or volumetric dosing pistons.
Our tests show that in certain applications, Sideflon® lasts up to four times longer than some filled PTFE materials, such as PTFE 10% Ekonol® or PTFE 10% PEEK®.
